Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Sep 22, 2015 2:35 am Hi all, So builder is putting in 2 x flush panel 720 doors for enclosing my theatre as I didn't think it seemed right (even for a rental) to have an open theatre out the front. seemed to defeat the purpose for sound and light control.. and figured it'd add more value to the house for a rental anyway as it'd potentially be a 5th bedroom? Resale value (if that ever happens). Just wondering whether it'd be cheaper to do it externally - i.e. get the builder to leave door frames up and then add in the doors myself post handOVER> Wanted to get a quote... currently i think it is Corinthian doors being put on - assumedly plain 720 flush panel doors. Is there any risk doing the door frames by builder and then install by a third party? Which brings me to my next question: what suppliers/brand would you recommend and also I am abit out of the loop but do the door suppliers install these? Or are there tradies who specialise in door installation? Sorry for the ignorance. Perth based so please tailor recommendations to there. Cheers Re: Internal doors - Supply and install recommendations 2Sep 24, 2015 12:26 pm Any thoughts guys? Am i right in saying a carpenter installs? How hard or bad or good idea is it just buying some cheap Corinthian internal 720 doors and gettinf someone to install em for the theatre? Will it cost a bomb to install, or will it still be cheaper than through the builder? Because i see its like 29 bucks a door from masters?! Am i at risk of having a door frame put in that wont sit flush with the 2 x 720 doors after handover?? Wouldn't want the hassle of buyinf 2 x 720 doors post handover that dont sit flush, if they install it then theyll haveto make sure it sits flush at least? Or is it common practice to just have door frames put in place first? I Re: Internal doors - Supply and install recommendations 3Sep 25, 2015 7:01 pm We're in Perth. We got builder to put in the frame for 2 X 720 doors but then chose our doors and had a carpenter install them. Flush panel probably won't help much with noise. We went with doors with glass inserts but if you're honking about dual purpose for a bedroom then flush or solid core doors would be best. We found it was probably cheaper in the end to get builder to do it as once we had the doors done, we then had to get the carpenter to hang and they still needed painting....I'd recommend you get the doors rebated (not the ugly mushroom rebate) and just be done with it! Re: Internal doors - Supply and install recommendations 4Sep 25, 2015 7:02 pm As for fitting, it will be close enough to 720 per door. You'll have to measure up and if it's a bit smaller the door supplier can fix that up when they create the rebate etc. we used Norms doors in maddington and found the service really good. Re: Internal doors - Supply and install recommendations 5Sep 29, 2015 1:18 am haha actualyl don't know what a mushroom rebate is so I didn't take it as that. Your suggestion was that flush panel doors inserted by the builder wouldn't suffice for a theatre? But then later on went to say flush doors would work for a bedroom? So I assume these are one in the same doors that you were referring to? Thanks for the recommendation for Norms. If I don't hear back from anyone else I"ll head in to pre-start with an open mind to see how much the rebate for the door will be (just leaving the panels) and whether it is worth the trouble to do them post-handover given then one might need to have them all painted and everything still anyway. Didn't know the door suppliers would create abit of cutting down to size for panels which aren't exact... so great to know! THat was my biggest worry in getting them to leave the panels in but not install any doors! Re: Internal doors - Supply and install recommendations 6Mar 02, 2016 11:15 pm Before installing the doors at home , it will always helpful to have some information about what type of door you need to install and what is its security level of protection,As everybody is concern about security of house.Installation of doors doesn’t need lots of efforts if you choose better option Of doors and the sellers of the same.Well many carpenters recommended me to have doors from professional dealers, If you need you can have a look at miami impact windows to minimize installation problems. That's a fantastic result! Happy you got it sorted out. cheers Simeon 6 8623 Okay, then the choice is really about the build quality of the door itself which means the brand name. Sorry I can't recommend one or the other so best to rely on comments… 5 3235 Thank you alexp79 and gommeqld for your advice, that's very helpful, thanks 3 7865 |
