Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Sep 04, 2015 9:41 am Hi We are about to embark on having a new home built in Brisbane. We are new to Australia and a bit unfamiliar with the aluminuim window styles. The style of the property is Hamptons and in order to get the right look, the windows have glazing bars attached to the aluminuim. I have attached an image of the style. https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=67A6FB23FCD3489F!4494&authkey=!AOqyo0oozNYvnvg&v=3&ithint=photo%2cJPG The house builder has included casement windows by Southern Star with glazing bars on the front façade. The rest of the house is either awning, double hung, or sliding ( without glazing bars). If we want the rest of the house in casement window (with glazing bars) it is $13000 upgrade. We went to their showroom to check out the windows and the casement windows do seem much more substantial and better quality compared with the others. They unfortunately had no examples of the glazing bars but said they were just siliconed to the glass panes afterwards. My questions are 1) are casement windows $13000 better than the others. (included glazing bars) 2) What do aluminuim windows look like with glazing bars, are they any good do they just come off? Does anyone know where we could view some? 3) If they are just siliconed to the windows could we fit them afterwards ( cheaper than $13000 upgrade) 3) we really want the Hamptons colonial look to the windows, is it better to try get timber? Thank you so much for your replies in advance!
