Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Apr 23, 2015 10:46 am Hi all, Just wondering about if we need curtains/blinds for double glazed windows? We were thinking in our living areas to just have sheer curtains and not a heavy blockout one. Will this be enough in summer with the double glazing to help keep heat out? I have read that double glazing benefits and more in winter to reduce heating costs. Thanks! Re: Double glazed windows and window coverings 2Apr 23, 2015 12:57 pm Hi row_007, I am so excited to hear that you are going with double glazing. I think a lot of people could benefit from double glazing in their houses if only they were to choose it. In terms of summer, curtains aren't going to do much for you more than the double glazing would do anyway. If you were worried about additional heat in summer then I would look at shading on the outside of the window (think awnings, trees, pergolas etc.). Double glazing will definitely help with keeping the heat in in winter and if you were concerned about additional heat loss then that is where curtains could come into play. The other thing that curtains would do for you is provide darkness. Do you need this room to be dark. Will it sometimes be used for sleeping? If not then the sheer curtains would probably do the job. I hope this helps and wish you all the best with it. Cheers, Jenny. Need hints, tips and inspiration? Join me on my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ournewhomecoach Who am I? Doesn't need to be dark at all and in fact want to keep it open, hence the sheers. Maybe we could see how the sheers go and if we are losing too much heat then go for heavier curtains down the track? Re: Double glazed windows and window coverings 4Apr 23, 2015 3:19 pm I would definitely think about curtains for winter. Double glazing is twice as good as single glazing but you will still be losing over 45 watts of heat/m2 of window/hour in winter. Say over 1kw for six hours for a 4m2 window.
