Hey all.
My plans have written 2340x820 cavity sliders.
When I measure the actual opening its only 740
How should plans be interpreted? Opening or door size?
If I would of known this I would of got 920 doors.

I measured from the bump stop in the cavity out 820, assuming it would be an 820 door, and the resultant gap was 740. So I really want to know, if the drawing says 2340x820 is that the size of the opening or door? A std 820 door is 780 when you take out the door thickness Re: Cavity slider dimension 4Mar 13, 2015 8:05 pm 820 is the actual door size. As already said, 10mm or there abouts is assumed to stay in the unit therefore giving an opening of around 810. Also, don't forget that if the jambs aren't fitted yet, and you measured to the stud opening you will lose another 20-25mm. 740 is too small. It sounds like the frame opening size was too small. Am I reading your situation right so far? Also, it is impossible to fit a cavity unit in a frame opening that is too small without cutting down the head track, this should be obvious to pick if you want a few more pointers Re: Cavity slider dimension 5Mar 13, 2015 8:25 pm Crazyk So how I got 740 was like this. The hole size from stud - stud for an 820 CSD is 1700. Re: Cavity slider dimension 7Mar 14, 2015 9:12 am If you have handles on the sides of the doors ( usually the recessed kind for cavity sliders ), then you need to allow probably at least 50 - 60mm of the doors sticking out to be able to use them properly. Yeah, the builder should have consulted you about the reduced opening. Unless as mgilla points out there is a structural reason why. Stewie Firstly, if your house is still under builder's warranty (10 years in Victoria) you should have no need to crawl into roof space but let the builder handle it, unless you… 3 5646 |
