I have some no-name winders at the moment and one-by-one they are starting to bind up in the chain. I have pulled about three apart and gotten two working smoothly. I have about eight I want to replace. They look to have the same dimensions as the Whitco. Has anyone used Doric and do they last? Has Lockwood been discontinued due to Whitco also being owned by Assa Abbloy? Years ago, we had problems with Whitco (yes a division of Assa Abloy), so we successfully use a tested product made by a Chinese company. All common chainwinders share the same footprint. I tested one on our window and would happily have changed to Truth, but the winder is only rock solid when fully open. Closed, it requires sash locks, and partially open is not really an option. Happy for you to disagree... Truth may not operate with existing windows due to the method of operation. The chainwinder is a very strong and reliable design, if not the best looking. You're right of course - you do need sash locks to properly close the windows - I didn't realise other winders didn't. Nor did I realise it wasn't the best looking But I am surprised that you say you can't leave them partially open. Do you mean you wouldn't or you are not able to? I think it's a great looking winder!! I think the winder will not rest the sash half open, as the weight of the sash will close it... unless you add friction stays. We do have friction stays so that's obviously why we can have them half closed or a quarter closed or any closed we want really. I've learnt something now. 4 14290 There is evidence of water on the head reveals. That could have happened during the build, or may be happening currently. There are water stains above a couple of windows… 2 3830 Personally, considering your layout (study/work desks in bedrooms), I don't think you have any other option but to leave NW windows and make them as big as possible e.g.… 7 10470 |
