Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Nov 03, 2014 5:03 pm Hi, just wondering if you have any experience with the acrylic panel lift garage doors? We really like the look of them and consider to put them in but not sure about the quality or durability. Any experience or thoughts about this kind of garage doors? Photo of the door we think of: http://www.gdstas.com.au/files/8113/6669/7532/SS_Ind_Sectional1.jpg Thx Re: Good or bad experience? Acrylic panel lift garage door 3Nov 21, 2014 10:50 pm Hi Seb, They work exactly the same way as any panel lift door - as long as it's installed properly, they work fine. If you don't have any windows in your garage they are great for letting in natural daylight, even the smoked acrylic panels (as per you linked photo). At night though, the opposite occurs. As soon as you turn the lights on in the garage people looking from the outside can see in clearly. The acrylic is pretty tough but will scratch. Minor scratches can be polished out with car polish, major ones will need to be wet'n'dry sanded first then polished (have a look at youtube for polishing acrylic to get an idea - heaps of ways to do it). Style wise, it's subjective as crazyk has so succinctly demonstrated above. The more modern style homes look good with this style of door, last century brick and tile style homes, not so much but each to their own. Last 2 points; they are more expensive than a standard panel lift & I know http://www.steel-line.com.au/inspirations-garage-doors.html make them as well. Good luck with it. ----------------------------------------------- http://pab34newdigs.blogspot.com.au/ ----------------------------------------------- Re: Good or bad experience? We live on acreage and our house will be more traditional so not sure whether this is the right way to go for us. Anyway, still thinking. We start the colour selection on the 15th of December so hopefully we will know what we like by then Cheers It's a classic case of aesthetics subjugating function where style takes precedence over practicality. 3 2924 Hi Alex, Thanks for the reply again.
