Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Oct 17, 2006 9:10 am Hi all,
We have a four panel glass entry door to our house and we always intended to just get it tinted. I've reliased though tat it won't provide much security at night so I was considering frosting. Does anyone know how this will look or a good place to get to frost the glass. We are in Melboure's NE. Thanks. Re: Tinting/Frosting front door for security. 2Feb 05, 2007 9:10 am HI Dazcla,
We are almost set to build, and have had a look at entry doors. A good site is the Corinthian doors site, as you can see all of their doors and the glass options. I realise that you already have the door, but it will give you an idea of what it will look like with different glass effects. HTH Ray. real security is achieved by European style multipoint entrance door locks rather than those single dead bolts. And for glazing it does not matter clear, tinted or obscure important is that the the glass is laminated. Same with windows, the traditional hardware is no good for security. It is better to use a multipoint locking mechanism. Re: Tinting/Frosting front door for security. 4Feb 14, 2007 8:25 pm A bit off the track, but also have a four panel front door, which is very see through. Not so much concerned re. security, but more so for our privacy. I was thinking that I might have to put some kind of frosted contact on them but worried this might look tacky.
Any suggestions? Re: Tinting/Frosting front door for security. 5Feb 17, 2007 1:34 pm ShellyC A bit off the track, but also have a four panel front door, which is very see through. Not so much concerned re. security, but more so for our privacy. I also had this same concern. i wasn't really sold on the idea of the frosting because I think it defeats the purpose of having glass. Yes you can't see in or out but why pay for glass when you don't cant see through it? We also have a four panel front door with side lights. We opted for an obscure glass which is still see through to a certain point but not totally. It, as the name suggests, obscures the view. I have gone for clear glass and will put plantation blinds angled so as to be able to see outside but not the other way. I wonder if anyone else has gone for the same option.

If your issue is privacy you can certainly get a frosted film - not contact - it will be hard to fit and won't be UV safe. Most tint people do this at around $65/m2 (min $150) or you can buy it off eBay. I did and I fitted it - no problem. If it's security - then have security screens fitted (same as a security door) to the side lights. Use one way mesh for privacy. Ed Hi When it rains in a particular direction water comes through the security door. It hits the main door and the bottom swells and jams.
