(Pic) 2Oct 29, 2014 7:59 pm Those windows are usually on the upper floors facing neighbours as there are privacy considerations. Cheers Mark Re: Would you have full size or half size windows? (Pic) 3Oct 29, 2014 8:10 pm I've seen them in single storey displays, one they were used on a side where the fence was up very high on top of a retaining wall, it was very dark in the rooms. But I did see it in another home where there was no such issues with light and it made the rooms very functional. Ie: more options for furniture placement. (Pic) 4Oct 29, 2014 8:10 pm We've chosen that window for our guest bedroom upstairs. Why? 1 Because it is a south facing wall (not much light anyway) 2 if we had a full size window it would have to have obscure glazing (privacy for next door) which was an extra $800 3 it was $150 cheaper than the standard size window 4 bedrooms don't need to be bright (especially guest ones) 5 the neighbour on that side of our house is an a$$hol3 (that's the ONLY window that side apart from a similar slit window in butlers pantry) 6 there is nothing to look out at that side of the house -- only the a$$hol3's roof 7 you can put more furniture against walls 8 I think it looks cool Re: Would you have full size or half size windows? (Pic) 5Oct 29, 2014 8:13 pm Personally I would avoid- the best window covering are blinds, inside mount which have light gaps around the edges and I like a dark bedroom. Also as someone whose career specialises in curtains, I have a bias towards them. In addition a window like that takes away the option of a wall treatment headboard (ie one that goes up most if not all of the wall) which is one of my decorating options. If these don't bother you and you are limited to sources of natural light to the room, then it could be a good option for you Re: Would you have full size or half size windows? (Pic) 6Oct 29, 2014 8:14 pm Hello, I have those windows. 2 in the main bedroom and 1 in the other bedrooms. They are fantastic you have no restictions where you can put furniture. They still provide great airflow when they are opened. I still get lots of light. Regards, Re: Would you have full size or half size windows? (Pic) 7Oct 30, 2014 8:47 pm Thanks for the replies! I'm so torn, because they aren't traditional and I'm worried about resale, but then I see a lot of positives. My house will be single story, bedrooms facing north, but only 1.2m until the fence on the garage access side. This PD bedroom was REALLY bright at midday on a grey day. Positives I can see: - Furniture placement - Privacy from outside - Cheaper window dressings/cost of window - Less energy loss - Security (no one get in or out likely) - Safety, no kids accidentally breaking window, or putting sticky fingers all over it Only cons really is not standard, and maybe not as much light? But how much light do you need in a bedroom.. it's for sleeping and changing. My two bedrooms are only 3x3m.. so quite small. Still can't decide!!! Re: Would you have full size or half size windows? (Pic) 8Oct 30, 2014 10:50 pm I have two, both upstairs. One in main bedroom and one overlooking our living room upstairs. Great for bringing in much need lights and we don't have blinds for them as no one can see inside them Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Second Build, this time with Carlisle 2016, can't wait! (Pic) 11Nov 06, 2014 8:59 pm How about a highlight window across top and two vertical awning windows down side? Creates a lovely space for your bed head and allows in more light. I'm having the vertical windows from 2.4m down to about 60cm above floor level so I can for my bedside tables under them. Re: Would you have full size or half size windows? (Pic) 13Nov 10, 2014 8:48 pm I too saw these in display homes and lots of photos online and love them. Our finished isn't finished yet but I've designed our home to have these windows in all the bedrooms. I'm sure they'll let in enough light and we'll have the flexibility to move furniture around. We have a lot of full length windows in our current house and I don't like them, too hard to position furniture, expensive window furnishing etc. Good luck Loving our new home, Upper Hunter NSW on 2.5 acres Thanks mate.
