Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Oct 24, 2014 9:44 am I have 4 timber windows in a double brick wall that are problematic namely: - noise - draft - paint peeling off internally/externally The most problematic is the noise as I live next to a busy road. Although the draft is also bad as I can see gaps and am able to see outside Should I repair or replace? If I replace should I go for timber or composite i.e. AL external, timber internal What would I expect in terms of price for the below: 1680h x 2774w 2 windows 1680h x 1860w 1205h x 1860w U value 2.2 8.5 hush glass Low E Bal Low Frame depth 175/10mm With the specs should I add, edit some as it may be over the top or not enough? The windows need to look the same from the outside to the other windows in the building as it's a body corp how would I go about doing that? Re: Windows question 2Oct 25, 2014 11:26 am If you can afford it, replace with double glazed. That will eliminate a lot of the noise. Just my two cents worth Re: Windows question 4Oct 25, 2014 3:00 pm There's also coatings that can be applied, cheaper than double glazed....here's a link to one, but I have no idea if this is better than competitors products (and there are quite a few). http://www.enerlogicwindowfilms.com.au/ ... native.php Re: Windows question 5Oct 26, 2014 2:31 pm We just finished replacing timber windows with Aluminium in a whole block of apartments in Kew. Low-E is most useful to prevent solar heat gain, i.e. Sun coming in heating up the room. Use it on North and West facing windows in conjunction with double glazing. We don't make a composite window, try Miglas... We do have thermally broken aluminium on special right now, but only in beige.
