Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Oct 22, 2014 9:48 pm We need to choose windows for our house extension. We are located in central Victoria, near Ballarat so cold in winter. Minor bedrooms and home office windows face WNW - windows will be 1800mm wide x 1300mm high. Living area has 2 sets of sliding glass doors (3600mm x 2100mm and 2000mm x 2100), these doors face roughly ESE. The larger door opens onto a fully covered alfresco area, the smaller door opens to a deck which may end up with a pergola. Our heating is a wood heater and we have a split system unit in the living area which is used primarily for cooling. Prime concern is the heat getting in to the rooms facing WNW. We will plant deciduous trees along this side of the house (rural property so no space issues) and probably put an awning of some sort over windows in summer. I know double glazing is not good for keeping heat out but is it still worth double glazing for the winter benefit? Will double glazing make a difference in the living area? If so, both doors or only the one not facing out to the alfresco undercover area? Any advice please?
