Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jun 08, 2008 5:33 pm I'm considering (very vaguely, it's not anywhere near a definite thought yet) replacing the master bedroom door (a single door) and replacing it with 2 thinner than single louvered doors. Would this work, or would each door have to be too thin to look any good? How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Replacing normal bedroom door with double doors? 2Jun 08, 2008 6:35 pm would this mean that to get in to the room you'd need to open both doors?
How big is the existing door? If it's standard size (820mm) - then I think keep it single. However, if it's wider - then I've seen 2 x 720mm doors done well. After 4 years - we're in! Re: Replacing normal bedroom door with double doors? 3Jun 08, 2008 9:28 pm Ah, ok. Yeah, it's standard. 80cm approx, so yeah, 800mm or whatever the normal is.
I wondered if it might look a little weird with 2 thin (400mm each) doors...sort of more like a kitchen pantry than a proper room door, eh? lol How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Replacing normal bedroom door with double doors? 4Jun 09, 2008 9:19 am Yeah - I think it would look weird personally! After 4 years - we're in! Re: Replacing normal bedroom door with double doors? 5Jun 09, 2008 10:13 am I think the novelty would wear off after a while.....and it would be a bit too pantry like....sorry no vote from me.
We've got doubles but they are 820 each, and we only use one of them really. Someone on here had a single like this with opaque glass, basically one side of a french door.....just a thought. You will find that 2 x narrow doors like that are actually quite difficult to get through and if they have strong closers on them - they continually bash into you as you push them apart. Yes they are just like bar doors. Not very practical when someone is in a bedroom or bathroom with the light on though Re: Replacing normal bedroom door with double doors? 7Jul 01, 2008 5:35 pm I am having a carpenter come and provide an estimate for replacing a basement door that opens to the outside, and repairing the frame. So the cost would involve the materials (new door, frame/jam wood & materials) plus labor. I am looking for ballpark figure to avoid being ripped off. What is a reasonable cost for replacing an exterior door & repair frame? Thanks a lot in advance.
