We liked the Tilt-and-turn windows because frankly they are quite novel in the way they function. Trouble is, this window opens up inwards and our house is two storeyed so installing a removable screen mesh is a bit confusing... I was wondering if this window type is popular in Australia? We can't put up the mesh on the inside as this window tilts inwards, and putting it on the outside will make the exteriors look ugly and just defeat the purpose of this renovation. For reference, here's the window we're thinking of installing: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ . You see how the mesh can't be outside as these windows will be on the front-face of our house. Also, if tilt-and-turn aren't good options for screen meshes, what other modern window types pair well with them? Thanks. The north remembers, and the mummer's farce is almost done. My son is home. Re: Window screen mesh with tilt and turn windows? 2Jul 09, 2014 10:25 am Hi mummers_farce, Unfortunately this is an issue with most open-in style windows. Your two best options are probably external fixed screens, or retractable internal screens, However the external screens will tend to become quite dirty being exposed to the elements. Internal Screens will most likely need to be retracted completely before operating the window (e.g. the mesh will block the hardware). But this may not be such an issue if they are easy to operate. I suggest you look at Open-out Casement/Awning options if you want to have fly-screens. Typically these systems are operable without removing the fly-screens, and as the screen is housed internally it does not usually become as dirty as often. No problem - what is the problem you are thinking of? Tilt & turns are our best selling windows - everyone that has purchased them has never regretted it. You can ask for a tilt first mechanism for child safety, and because hot air rises and cold air falls, a tilt is a really effective way to ventilate! Awning windows are also popular, casement opening out are popular too - but that might have more to do with the architecture of your home rather than the functionality. Tilt & slide is also available if you are really keen on sliding option. All the best for your reno! Yeah, and I'll be damned if someone asks me to go remove them from that high up the wall for cleaning! Haven't come across tilt & slide windows, but I guess with a flyscreen fixed on the inside these will get reduced to just sliding windows. Are there any tilting windows that tilt outwards? Re: Window screen mesh with tilt and turn windows? 5Jul 15, 2014 12:15 pm Hi There, I am also having tilt and turn and had the same query. So what I think will work is pull down screens on the outside of the window. Difficult if not impossible to pull down in tilt mode but you should turn the window inwards, pull down the screen and then put in tilt mode. That way you only see the screens when they are pulled down. That was the way it was demonstrated to me. Also the window guy said wait until I was in as you do not need screens on every window. He recommended getting on the ones that will be left open for a significant time. hope this helps. Take a look at retractable flyscreens as an option. They are fitted to the inside and the the window and come down like a roller blind when needed and then roll up when not in use. There is not bottom track so they look very clean. Also there is no permanent screen over the window so you get clear vision through.
