Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Aug 30, 2014 4:19 pm We are about to install sliding stacker doors out onto our deck. The opening is 5.6 metres wide. The door system that we have chosen comes with a retractable type insect screen which sits on the outside. I am after advice on what blinds or curtains work with these systems. I have seen the centor retractable blinds but have mixed feelings about them as reviews are very mixed. I need something fairly robust as this opening faces due south so sometimes gets a lot of wind, also the house is a holiday rental and people are sometimes not as careful with things as they would be in their own homes!! Thanks for you valuable input. Re: Blinds or curtains for stackable sliding doors 2Aug 30, 2014 4:22 pm Nothing? Unless for privacy. Otherwise I'd prefer curtains to keep them out of the way and not have cords hanging down, since you'd need several blinds for the width Recently moved to a 60's home in need of some improvement! http://s797.photobucket.com/user/leenii ... ch%20House Old house: http://s797.photobucket.com/albums/yy25 ... loo/House/ Re: Blinds or curtains for stackable sliding doors 5Aug 31, 2014 8:32 am Verticals work well. We also have screens on our cedar stacker doors - to al fresco area. Re: Blinds or curtains for stackable sliding doors 6Aug 31, 2014 9:01 am I have been thinking over this question heaps for my own stacker doors. I have 2 leading onto our alfresco. Still need to order blinds for them as I have been deliberating this very question. This is were I am to date... Verticals - will remain in my view even when open, due to size of doors I estimate when open they will still block 20 cm of the door, if you use standard ones. Didn't even consider the huge verticals for our doors, the ones that are the size of each door. Curtains - same as previous, but also think they can look heavy in the room I want it to be bright and airy Veniticians - will remain in the way even if drawn all the way to the top. Roller blinds - this is what I have settled on, the new thin modern ones, we will only be drawing them for privacy at night time. I cool one I saw was they actually had two over the sliding door. The first one was the width of one sliding door and the other the width of the other doors. Purpose was so if you wanted to you only have to roll one door if you just want to keep blinds drawn and go in and out. Any way that's my opinion to date. Look forward to see what others have done. Always open to new ideas. Re: Blinds or curtains for stackable sliding doors 7Aug 31, 2014 9:06 am So if you guys are putting roller blinds did you put a sheer blind as well? I'm tossing up that if we go the roller option to put a really see through sheer so that our neighbours can't see in during the day. Re: Blinds or curtains for stackable sliding doors 8Aug 31, 2014 9:58 am I've seen them with sheer for day and then block out for night. In my circumstances neighbours really can't see that much in and if they have nothing better to do then they can. We got the big open glass doors so we have that open feel I don't want to have blinds down all the time so I will only be getting the block out roller not both. In my last house, we had neighbours very close and two storeys, we ended up tinting the windows which created reflection on the outside therefore not being easy to see inside from the outside. Just be careful not to darken the room to much with your tint selection. We had heaps of sun in the back so tinting didn't impact our lighting to much. Re: Blinds or curtains for stackable sliding doors 9Aug 31, 2014 10:18 am We just put in two blockout roller blinds for our stacker doors. Smaller one for the actual sliding and larger one for the rest of the door. Second Build, this time with Carlisle 2016, can't wait! How do you find it functionally? Re: Blinds or curtains for stackable sliding doors 11Sep 01, 2014 10:10 pm The idea is to leave the blind that has the most traffic up all the time Second Build, this time with Carlisle 2016, can't wait! We have insect screens on them. Cedar stackers. We have verticals that go just a little longer and sit on the edges. They block no view and can be open in any sort of configuration. I don't particularly like the pull downs as they are either up or down - the half way thing seems odd to me - but that's just me ... With verticals you can have any colour, closed / open / closed - but slats open etc etc. Ideal for privacy as you can angle the slats - also for sun. BUT - you must have a pelmet. They really set the vertical off and make it seem a little more professional. Re: Blinds or curtains for stackable sliding doors 14Sep 03, 2014 7:45 am Crazyk Has anyone put palmets on their roller blinds? I think they would look good. Slim line ones I'm talking about. Funny you should ask ... We were putting a vertical in one room - but it didn't fit .. another story ... however he had made the pelmet. So we put the vertical in our laundry - it fitted there (but the pelmet would have been a squeeze. We then decided to put a roller blind in the original room. It therefore had/got the pelmet. I hope that makes sense. It does look good. I feel it looks a tad bare without one. Re: Blinds or curtains for stackable sliding doors 17Sep 03, 2014 6:09 pm Yeah my thought exactly. I think it looks a little bare. Adds a bit of a soft touch. A found out a friend of mine had aluminium ones last night. They looked terrible, didn't have the heart to tell them Re: Blinds or curtains for stackable sliding doors 19Sep 07, 2014 10:05 am Crazyk Yeah my thought exactly. I think it looks a little bare. They may love them. Re: Blinds or curtains for stackable sliding doors 20Sep 08, 2014 10:52 am I agree, panel glides can be a good option. If it's for a rental go roller blinds - much easier and cheaper to replace.
