Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Aug 06, 2014 4:33 pm Hi, I've asked our builder about upgrading the alfresco doors to aluminium bifolds and to include double glazing around the whole house and they've come back with an upgrade cost of $17,000 ($9000 glazing, $8000 doors) The bifolds are 21-29 and 21-32. I thought aluminium windows/doors were supposed to be cheaper than timber. $4000 per door (upgrade cost) seems very high considering it's just frames and no glass. Thanks. Re: Estimate on upgrade costs 2Aug 08, 2014 8:31 pm I know for our build, windows were from 10'000 for very basic single glazed to 30'000 for top of the range tilt,n turn, double glazed ,thermally broken, with 8 bi fold door with wood look inside and outside for bi folds only,if your got basic builders range originally included, theres quite a difference with top double glazed, have a look at how much more aluminium is in some tilt n turn windows. Re: Estimate on upgrade costs 3Aug 08, 2014 11:09 pm I would think that 17k for the upgrade price is pretty good on the face of it. For starters you need to know what spec of double glazing you are getting and whether they are thermally broken. Bifolds are very expensive to start with and double glazing just ups the cost, hence I went for a massive two pane stacker. From how it was explained to me uPVC is the cheapest and aluminium is 25% more and timber is 25% more over aluminium all other things being the same. Which state are you in, I am in Perth. PM me if you want the details of the upgrade prices. I got a quote separately and the cost was ball park to what I had been provided, so I'm happy. Thanks guys.
