Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 May 25, 2008 2:23 pm A warning that this may be a long post. Last year my husband and I renovated our main bathroom and laundry. There were originally 2 rooms with the bathroom at the front and looking on to our family room. The laundry was behind the bathroom and only accessible via this bathroom. Unfortunately, the toilet in the bathroom looked directly into the family room and kitchen. Hence no one would use it for fear of being exposed. In order to turn the toilet around and hide it behind a new half wall we had to remove the laundry/bathroom wall. This left us with the laundry and bathroom as one room. Note that these rooms were originally very small and the new single room is still not large.
Now I get to the problem which we have. The cost of ripping out the toilet plumbing set in our concrete slab meant that the new toilet had to fit over the original spot, though now facing the other way. My husband miscalculated the space we would have from the toilet to the laundry appliances (which are now all set on the back wall) and we have only limited space between the two. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk279/Neverfinished05/th_bathroom005.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk279/Neverfinished05/th_bathroom009.jpg He also misjudged the space between our new 1.5m vanity (on the other side of the bathroom) and the laundry appliances. The gap between the two is only 12.5cm. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk279/Neverfinished05/th_bathroom002.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk279/Neverfinished05/th_bathroom007.jpg I hate seeing all the laundry appliances from the bathroom and the original plan was to hide this end of the bathroom by using sliding glass opaque doors in a misty grey colour. To add to our problem, my husband has now declared that he does not want tracks on the floor which is tiled in polished porcelein . http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk279/Neverfinished05/th_bathroom006.jpg Our house has internal timber beams (Yuck but all the rage in 1981). The doors/partition would have to hang from a timber beam which will be placed back on the ceiling (originally this was above the old wall which we removed and it is not supporting the roof). And then there is another problem: We need three doors/ panels so that if we have to remove the washing machine or freezer we can get them out. Below is a link to a rough idea of what we are looking for though in different colours etc. http://www.hafele.com/au/news-and-events/news/10528.asp Actually, it is what I am looking for as my husband has dug his heels in, declared it all too hard and he wants to leave the room as pictured. I have contacted Hafele but their lack of customer service leaves me loath to deal with them. Can anyone give me some guidance as to possible suppliers/installers of these doors. I thought of wardrobe companies but the mention of laundry and water leaves many of them horrified. I do not want any timber surrounds. I have googled door suppliers to no avail. I have thought that a company doing office partitions might be the go but surely they would laugh at my small request? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you Re: Sliding Glass Doors/Partitions 2May 25, 2008 6:35 pm So are we the deciding factor in a martial discussion
Personally I'm all for closing it off and the glass looks good. I'm doing a similar project in my laundry in the future- wasted space and laundry needs to be re-arranged. And the glass is an option. I don;t think timber should be a restrictor - hey it is used on outdoor windows too. I'd be contacting the bathroom companies if you want glass only.. Helen Re: Sliding Glass Doors/Partitions 4May 25, 2008 6:50 pm Contact a company that deals in shower screens.
They could very well do what it is you’re after. I’m sitting here looking at a HAFELE disk on my desk they sent me with all their products on it. I haven’t looked at it yet I only got it last Thursday. Shame about their customer service!
