Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jul 07, 2014 3:56 pm Hi there Currently considering house design and costings. I’m looking for advice on positives and negatives of window brands (Jason, Dowell and Affinity) and also sliding, versus awning for some windows. I like sliding windows but I don’t like how sand, dust, crap gets trapped in the runner/cavity at the base of the window frame. I like awning because they open out and allow less rain in on a rainy day. Am I correct in thinking that they don’t have the runner/cavity at the base of the window frame to catch all the dust/sand etc? What I don’t like about awnings, is that on a house where the side is close to boundary, it creates less room to get past the window if you’re using that side of house. Which is probably worrying too much, as if it’s a narrow gap then its not for regular use and I could always close the window! How are awnings for security compared to sliders? Thanks for reading! Re: Which Windows?? 2Jul 07, 2014 5:22 pm Hi Beazley77, In general, awnings are a better option as they provide a better seal than that of a sliding window. Depending on the window system you opt for, Awnings provide better security with features like multi-point locking. Awnings also do provide some shelter in light rain conditions depending on the eave design which is another benefit over a sliding option. In regards to limiting your walkway access - this is a personal preference. I believe it is not an issue an issue as you can control the width of opening on the awning have it so it is still providing ventilation without intruding on the walkway.
