Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 May 18, 2014 3:40 pm Hi, My first post, great forum... So, we've bought a block of land just across a narrow road from a major freight and passenger line (in Newport, Melbourne). We're close to finalizing our design for two townhouses we plan to build there. We will be living in one. Now, it's a no-brainer that windows and balcony doors will be double glazed - but what type is going to offer best value for money? I've read here uPVC is good acoustically, but we are planning a few large windows (uPVC expands, I've read here), and would prefer dark colors. uPVC seems to be more expensive too. Aluminium I'm worried about, I suspect it wll leak sound? So any thoughts on best material would be appreciated. I'm also worried about using sliding doors. Strikes me, they cannot provide a total seal by their nature, would French doors be better, for a similar price? I can sort of 'reset' the noise by pressing firmly on the studs. This… 10 11701 |
