Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 May 12, 2014 10:13 pm Is there anyone who has a narrow openable window? Our builder is planning on using 2 windows (0903f) in our bathroom, one on each side of the mirror above our vanity. The problem i have with these is that they are fixed. Love to have an openable window in a bathroom. There is not a lot of space so I want to know what is the narrowest window size that still can be opened? Anything I see online is 600 or wider. Thanks! DD Re: Narrow openable window 2May 12, 2014 10:18 pm Why not use a casement or awning window? http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Narrow openable window 3May 13, 2014 8:11 am Let's hope you can see this picture....... This is what i mean Re: Narrow openable window 5May 13, 2014 8:39 am We have been thinking about using louvres, same as a highlight window above the mirror. Only a bit worried about how easy those would provide access to unwanted visitors to the property (insects as well as thieves). Re: Narrow openable window 6May 13, 2014 9:31 am I would be very reluctant to go for louvres in a bathroom, particulary in the colder climates due to the lack of sealing that they do, as it can make a bathroom a coldroom. I know a lot of trendy houses use a lot of louvred windows, and whilst they might be great in the warmer climates for keeping the house cool, I don't think a bathroom is the right place for them. As has been suggested, casement or awning windows would be a far better option if you want them openable. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. That's not a problem, we are in Victoria but we never close our bathroom window! That's the main reason why I don't want to have fixed windows Re: Narrow openable window 8May 13, 2014 12:25 pm Not a solution to your question, but having seen your internal elevation can I suggest you have the builder provide a longer mirror which extends up in line with the top of the windows? That just looks a little odd with it sitting 200mm or so below the tops of the windows. Completed a knock down and rebuild in northern Melbourne. Handover completed 27/09/2013 and now moved in. Thanks! We already mentioned this because indeed it looks odd, but this is a minor thing to me, since I am not happy with the overal design. Having the shower head come from the ceiling instead of the wall should avoid any issues there. Still as mentioned before casement or awning windows would be your best bet with the current design: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Narrow openable window 11May 13, 2014 2:31 pm Re: Narrow openable window 12May 13, 2014 2:43 pm Agree with an awning or casement style window would be the best only I am not aware if the are available less that 600mm wide. Will ask this later this week when we have a catch up with the builder regarding our plans. Reversing the design is something we probably end up doing.... Cheers, DD Re: Narrow openable window 13May 13, 2014 2:54 pm Just checked my plans and the windows were 610mm wide. I thought they were 500mm. Re: Narrow openable window 14May 13, 2014 3:35 pm We have a 400mm awning window in our bedroom and it is permanently locked open just as you require. On our plans the code is DA1804 and the windows were supplied by Dowell but when you go to their website this size is not listed so you must be able to put in a special order for any window out of the ordinary. http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/s507/grumblebum54/awning1_zpsf885a64e.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/s507/grumblebum54/awning2_zpse8331f8f.jpg Regards, Grumbles Re: Narrow openable window 15May 21, 2014 7:25 pm robbie55 You could reverse the design and just have a high set sliding window above the shower and toilet. Re: Narrow openable window 16May 23, 2014 3:35 pm The main limit on width is the hardware... we can do min 450mm wide, min 500mm high in awning. If you do hear anything different, would be great to know 4 8375 dimensions on your original plan are inconsistent and with accurate dimensions (including site plan, upstairs and down) i could make a proper scale drawing with furniture… 3 7635 So still no slab and apparently the concreter cancelled. Here come the delays... apparently things haven't recovered quite as much as I thought. I've been told maybe next… 8 31721 |
