Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 May 23, 2008 12:43 am I have just had my patio blinds put in and have been looking at replacing the sliding door that leads from the dining room into the patio. I spent a small fortune on the pergola and now the blinds to make it an enclosable area.
I would have liked bifolds but the opening isn't big enough (1.8m wide x 2.1m high), so I have tried to get quotes on aluminium french doors. Thsi has proven difficult in perth as the likes of stegbar and stirling glass have shut their books for the year. I found 3 companies who were prepared to give a quote for the work this year, they were all within 200 of each other. Quote is for: remove exisitng sliding door fit powder coated aluminium french door set parliament hinges colonial bars Is around 2900 a fair price? Re: French Doors 2Mar 22, 2009 8:26 pm Sorry to reply to an old post, but I wondered how you went with this? I am looking at doing something very similar. We want to replace an existing window with aluminium french doors that will lead out into our pergola and would be happy to hear about any similar experiences and advice. Re: French Doors 3Mar 23, 2009 8:49 pm I got the french doors for my patio and had the sliding door removed. The quote I got was atypical for Perth. I was that impressed with the doors and Nulook that I got them to put in a second set in the spare bedroom so it now has access to the courtyard. A local builder charged me 250 for removing the bedroom window and creating the opening, he also fixed it all up after the door guys had installed. If i was to do it all over again I may have opted for wood instead as it is half the cost over here, aluminium french doors are damm expensive. Re: French Doors 4Mar 23, 2009 9:08 pm Oh glad to hear you had a good result. I dug out my old quote and found that they were charging $2,500 for cedar doors and $3,800 for the aluminium, which would be our preference. Apparently the size of our space is not standard so the doors would need to be a custom job, which also ups the price. This was from 2005, so I obviously expect some increase since then. The price includes the removal of the old window, supply and installation of the doors, hardware, etc. I can see how good it will look in the spot - just have to raise the funds and convice the hubby! we have a standard size and often we have a lot of variety to choose 0 3656 We are looking for sliding doors which are 5 metres tall.
