Browse Forums Windows & Doors Re: Raised ceiling height/ standard doors 2May 22, 2008 11:49 pm For most builders I would say they're two different items. It's not necessary to have the taller doors with the higher ceilings, though it's something that can only be done with the higher ceilings. IMO it just makes it that much nicer and gives a more spacious and open feeling. That being said, we were originally just going to use standard sized doors as we weren't aware of any other options.
The higher ceilings are nice and gives you more options with lightings and ceiling fans as you have more room to play with. Re: Raised ceiling height/ standard doors 3May 23, 2008 12:12 am Hi dna,
Yes, I thought so too.. it would be nice to have the higher ceilings. Thanks for your reply... so are you having 2300 size doors? I am at the moment intending to keep them at standard as until now didnt realise about the higher doors as well. I hope they will look okay and wont look mismatched size wise. We are having higher ceilings and standard door heights. Our current older house has high ceilings and standard doors, doesn't look funny. Can't see why it should look funny on a new house either. Yes, we had the same & the door height made no difference. We will be doing the same with our new house. Looks fine to us. Re: Raised ceiling height/ standard doors 8May 23, 2008 8:55 am We are getting the higher ceilings (2740mm from memory) but we're only putting in higher doors to the master bedroom. The rest of the doors are standard height. Re: Raised ceiling height/ standard doors 9May 23, 2008 9:02 am We are having 2700cm ceilings and the higher doors - I just like the look of the larger door - keeps things in proportion. Really happy to note that all of you have had the higher ceilings and standards doors. Thats settled then thanks to you. Higher ceilings are nice as Helyn put it give a sense of spaciousness and are cool in summer. I was debating whether i should take them out but I think $4500 ( thats what my builder is charging) is well spent. Stonecutter 1309 I am sure the higher doors will look good too.! I appreciate all your replies. Thanks again. Raz If you think you can, you can. Re: Raised ceiling height/ standard doors 11May 23, 2008 1:23 pm You mean the 2340 doors? I have them throughout. My architect had indicated standard doors (being 2040). Most of my ceilings are 2700 however I have the entry and lounge room with 3600.
The first thing that my partner did after the frame was done was change the door height. Must admit he made it look so much better with the higher doors. Made such a difference to the house. Re: Raised ceiling height/ standard doors 12May 23, 2008 5:12 pm Hi Raz,
We have also got the very high ceilings with doors 2340mm both up and down stairs. This was one of the most important design factors I wanted. This was one of the most important design factors I wanted. Hard to change lights I must admit Mrs B Our new (established) place has 3 metre high ceilings through out and the lounge has a raked ceiling, height at the peak is 4.5 metres....I'm hoping the lights don't blow..... In the stairwell to the loft study (also raked) the height to the peak is about 6 metres....gonna make it interesting to repaint..... mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Raised ceiling height/ standard doors 14Jul 05, 2008 8:43 pm tiffany I need some designing tips on a new kitchen. We are currently renovating our home with the major renovation being the kitchen. We chose maple cabinets with a coffee glaze and would like wood floors. I have not picked out countertops, I am very confused. Is there any rule as to what color counter tops and floors should be? Should I go light on the floors and counters, a dark color, a mixture? Any input will appreciate. Tiffany, You might like to put this question in the kitchen forum….I tried to move it for you, but I can’t do it. Just copy and past it in a new post in the kitchen forum. You might get looked at better there! Another thing we are doing to match this is push all the windows up off the floor to match the height as well. Our builder suggested that this would add to the spacious feel of the ceiling height, and it doesn't cost anymore. One thing we didn't realise with the raise in door height was that now we have to make our 6 stacker door and sliding door higher as well so that is a few extra $$$ Re: Raised ceiling height/ standard doors 17Mar 26, 2009 9:34 pm oh great, an Irish cottage to get away for mini breaks from the hustle and bustle of London city life is just what Jo needs. sorry I can't stop with these property spam jokes jo. Re: 18Mar 27, 2009 7:09 am Raz I was debating whether i should take them out but I think $4500 ( thats what my builder is charging) is well spent. $4500... I'd certainly question that cost... A standard 2040 door will be costing the builder about $27... While a 2340 door is around $58.... So being that its a $30 difference... How many doors do you have in your house??? The average house will have no more than 20 internals.... So $600... Even adding a little more for additional jambing and architraves, it still doesn't take it to anywhere near $4500... Re: Raised ceiling height/ standard doors 19Mar 27, 2009 7:33 am I think the $4500 was the price for the actual raised ceiling rather than the doors? Re: Raised ceiling height/ standard doors 20Mar 27, 2009 9:19 am We are having 2700m ceilings and 2340 doors everywhere including the wardrobes. We have raised the shelf and rail in the wardrobes so that we can easily add another rail lower. The higher doors to the wardrobes gives us easy access to all that lovely high storage space.
