Meranti is a reasonable quality hardwood species, it has a class 3 external rating (compared to Merbau/Kwila is now a class 2), as previously posted it will (as all timber does) requires maintenance.
If your windows are in full weather, i would recommend changing to another species, eg Rosewood or Spotted Gum etc.. it will be more expensive but will last longer and stay straighter with less maintenance.
Painting will require less maintenance than staining.
Hopefully this information helps.

Agree with Doorkeeper. Although it's important to know that Meranti is an Asian imported timber. We use all Victorian Ash to make our windows and doors which is locally grown, sustainable and Kiln Dried, it also looks great.
Look up a website called Australian Sustainable Hardwood. You will find our a lot of information on there about Victorian Ash.
