Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Feb 04, 2014 8:09 am We're getting a tender with a volume builder who use Stegbar. The house has a fair amount of large openings on the northern and western sides (the western side is shaded mostly with trees in a neighbouring reserve. We've been doing lots of research on what type of glazing would suit from laminated low-e class to IGU and reading about SHGC and U values etc. And I've been reading lots on this forum. However what we are trying to do is get a cost comparison of the different options. And I don't really know if the Aluminium windows/doors are going to let us down as the performance data sheet I have of some of there options seem to be based on the glass performance. I am hoping some other person has had a similar situation where they have done the research and can guide us as to the best approach. Should we just talk to a sales person at Stegbar? Or should we shortlist 5 options and ask our builder to quote up the different glazing options. (They aren't exactly reluctant but at the same time they take forever for these sorts of things). So we're wondering if we should go with IGU with the laminated (and tone?), the single glaze low e or something else. And does lightness of 45 mean it's like wearing really dark sunnies? I think I just want a wizard or someone of authority saying bang for your buck go with option A at this price or option B at this price or if you want to really splurge go with option C (actually if someone gave the the pricing I could probably get a calculator whipped up in a spreadsheet!) Re: Stegbar windows / doors and pricing 2Feb 04, 2014 4:55 pm OK I called Stegbar and they told me: Double glazing is about $400 per sq metre Laminated is about $268 per sq metre AND that all their glazing is via Viridian. That's good to know! Geesh you would think that this information is available easily somewhere. So I thought I'd share. I've only just jumped onto the Viridian site and here's a file I think would be handy to others in this situation: http://www.viridianglass.com/products/downloads/Viridian%20Glass%20Performance%20Data%20-%20Energy.pdf (The builder's sales consultant was confused when I originally asked about "Viridian glass" she had no idea who I was talking about... hence my thinking (at the time) was that they mustn't use them anymore... *sigh*) Re: Stegbar windows / doors and pricing 3Feb 05, 2014 7:46 am I'm having a conversation with myself But hopefully this will be helpful to others. This is what i got from my builder's side as an upgrade (so substantially cheaper than the 'stock' price) Viridian Smart Glass is approx. $105/m2 Double Glazing is approx. $225/m2 6.38mm laminated glazing is approx. $130/m2 No idea at this stage what this means as the choices Viridian has is quite extensive with tones and double glazing of different combinations. OK. I will talk to you... Your prices seem too high, shop around. On the other hand I have not seen your plans so I cannot comment in detail... If we end up doing the renovation option our choices widen substantially! Here's a scan of our plans (north is up) Note the changes that I have with the windows aren't reflected (haha!) in the plan. e.g. all windows are awning windows, all doors are stacking doors. Bathroom windows are all obscure glass. Flashings over doorways and windows our carpenter has installed flashings that is buckled and short of the window frames and door frames is this right Is there a… 0 10923 I don't know them all, the first 2 top of your list are best known.
