Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Dec 27, 2013 5:46 pm Hi, Just looking at window coverings etc... Do cedar / wooden venetian blinds provide a complete block out of light? ie do the slats have light coming between them, and do the slots where the cords run - let light through? Also - what are peoples thoughts on venetian blinds for a large bi - fold? I am wondering if this would work - having separate blinds over each door and just pulling up those for the amount of doors that we open at any particular time..? I dont like roman or roller blinds and as the door is in the kitchen area - curtains wont look right. dont like panel glides either.. any thoughts...?? I am looking at cedar/wooden venetian blinds in most of the rooms and curtains with a blockout lining and a spearate voile sheer for the large stacker doors in the lounge and family rooms.... Re: cedar / wooden venetian blinds 2Dec 29, 2013 8:41 am I was going to go with those but as our windows are too big they said I would need two to three blinds per window, our biggest window is about 2.8 + wide,to have one complete blind they would be to heavy to lift, any blind in the recess of the window will let in a little light, and you can get the no holes blinds but are more expensive,I've ended up going with double rollers which have the sun filter blind with the block out on the inside, also you can have blinds fitted on the outside of the window frame which would be more block out.hope this helps Re: cedar / wooden venetian blinds 3Dec 29, 2013 4:08 pm we have a lot of wooden venetian blinds. personally I'm not a fan. they do not block out all light, light comes through the slats as you mention. aslo they are vey heavy (we have a few about 190cm wide by 210cm tall) and they are very hard to lift to beable to open the windows. also even completely up, they take up about a foot of space, so you might hit your head on them if they are on doors. curtains imo are the best as they move the best with an open door or window. in the right fabric with the right pleat they will suit a kitchen Recently moved to a 60's home in need of some improvement! http://s797.photobucket.com/user/leenii ... ch%20House Old house: http://s797.photobucket.com/albums/yy25 ... loo/House/ I’m restoring all my 40yr old windows and I want to install seals around the casements.
