Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Oct 10, 2013 10:52 am Hi, Just doing some prelim work on a build and trying to create some architectural features on a budget-before going to draftsman/architect. Two of these features are a large fixed window, and a large sliding window. I'm wondering what generally the largest window size you can get without having to order custom. All indications are custom sized windows costs a lot more, and i'd like to avoid that. I'm hoping to get some windows around the 4 metre wide by 2.4ish. Any ideas? Thanks Re: Largest Standard Window Sizes 2Oct 10, 2013 3:32 pm Standard sizes are on most window manufacturer websites eg http://www.stegbar.com.au/pdf/Stegbar-S ... -Sizes.pdf Re: Largest Standard Window Sizes 4Oct 10, 2013 4:33 pm Hi Art, You will definitely struggle to find something that big in a manufacturer’s standard size. Whichever product you decide to proceed with you will need to carefully think about the handling and installation of this product as it will be packing quite a bit of weight. In our system this would weigh about ~500kg. As it’s a large undivided pane, it’s not something that can be easily site glazed either and would be easier to handle as a finished glazed frame. We can manufacture a double-glazed fixed window up-to this size if you require. Feel free to contact us at info (at) miglas.com.au, or send me a PM for some more information on our system and a quotation. Thanks This would be a commercial window, at around $10,000-$20,000. If it was in several pieces or with mullions (diving the glass vertically), or a sliding door say, it would work out to be under $3,000. If this window faces North or West, it will need low-E (in a double glazed unit), as it will transmit the equivalent of 1kW/m2 = 9.6kW (think of 10 radiant bar heaters)... with low-E that could be as low as 2kW. I'm more than happy for it to be split. It would be interesting to know if it's a more expensive option to have the mullions, or as multiple pieces of glass without mullions. Multiple pieces of glass without mullions would be more expensive as it would need glass fins at 90 degrees to support the glass. Cheaper still if you split into say 4 windows 1m wide with a stud between.
