Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Sep 17, 2013 9:45 pm I am looking to replace some fixed open louvers to keep out aircraft and street noise. The current frames are 510 wide by 682 tall (outside measurement), so they dont appear to match standard "brick size" measurements. I'm guessing i will need to buy custom made windows due to the size, and that double glazed panes with associated noise reduction seals is the best option for noise control. Is that right? Who can make up such windows and supply to Sydney? Ballpark for cost for 3 in frosted glass? Thanks Re: Aircraft noise + custom windows 2Sep 25, 2013 7:44 pm Generally, the thicker the glass, the better the performance. At the same time, thicker glass is more expensive. Also the bigger the air gap the better, and the windows should also have acoustic seals. The right question to ask is what is your expectation of performance, or what sort of a reduction in noise do you expect? The 6.38/20 air/8.38 will easily achieve 36Rw, 10.38/18 air/8.38 44Rw, etc. Essentially, as you increase your budget, you can purchase better performing windows. Actually using Kommerling we can now offer 12.76/24 air or argon/8.76 which is very exciting, and our Premiline Lift and Slide doors can achieve 45Rw. I wouldn't bother with anything thinner than 6.38 for a decent reduction in noise. Itemid=299 I have had no luck finding them. Nope, only on the inside, I've literally has my ears to the brick outside and can't hear anything. I can sort of 'reset' the noise by pressing firmly on the studs. This… 10 5031 Upgrading your windows to soundproof ones, like triple-glazed, can make a significant difference.
