Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Sep 01, 2013 8:02 pm I have just had 6 very large UVPC(4.6x1. windows and one French door installed. 4 large windows face west, French door north, the rest south. The glass spec is 6.38 Lam / 17mm Air gap / 4mm glass low E surface 3 Even though not specifically noise reduction windows I wanted them installed to help with this aspect if possible. The fitter advised to put the laminated to the outside to aid with this. Two questions I have and cant get straight answers for from the glass supplier. 1. Is it better to have the laminated in or out for max distant traffic rumble reduction. 2. Does it matter that the low E coat is on face 3 on the west facing windows. What way around. 6Sep 03, 2013 7:17 am I would say the other way round in the West (low-E to surface 2) to reduce solar heat gain... and I don't think it makes any difference acoustically, that you can discern, where the laminated glass is. But it's fairly easy to change that in PVC. Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. If not it will help with the solar gain (blocking) in summer. I assume you said that way as the air gap can heat up and still transfer heat thru conduction ? Im finding it real hard to get answers from glass manufacturers:( re the noise etc. Re: New Double glazed windows. What way around. 8Sep 03, 2013 3:27 pm bazzle Thanks ed. As I said in another post, having tested laminated compared to float. the difference is an indiscernible, 1dB.
