Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Aug 03, 2013 12:34 pm I have one of these privacy locks fitted to my bathroom door: http://www.waggarestorationcentre.com.a ... 36-PB.html A curious problem has started happening with the lock, when you turn the door handle (oval knob) clockwise to open the door, the latch doesn't retract fully into the lock unit. Instead, it retracts at a bit of an angle, where the top of the latch is fully retracted, but the bottom sticks out a bit. This causes the door to stick...if you give it a shove, it'll usually open. However, if you turn the oval knob counter-clockwise, the latch retracts fully, and the door opens with no issue at all. I have two more of these privacy locks on other doors in the house, and they're working ok. So I replaced the internal lock unit with a spare I had left over from the reno, thinking this would fix it. but the same problem is happening. So I guess it must be related to one of the other parts of the lock set. Any thoughts? Re: Privacy lock door hardware sticking clockwise only 2Aug 03, 2013 10:56 pm Does the lock work normally when it's removed from the door? The fact that a second lock body did exactly the same thing makes me think it may be the installation. With mortice locks, if the mortice isn't exactly right, when everything is screwed up it can put pressure on the lock body which prevents it from working properly, sometimes just in one direction. If the lock doesn't slide easily into the mortice then it may be necessary to remove a little more "meat" from the mortice so the lock body isn't pressing on the side casing when it's screwed into the door. It can take a few adjustments to get it right. Why not call the chippy back who installed them?
