Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Apr 30, 2008 5:37 pm Folks,
I've been researching reputable shutter companies (such as Open Shutters) and noticed that almost all of them have odd clauses in their warranty fine print. Basically, the fine print says the warranty does not cover a call out fee for the company to inspect the blinds when you make a warranty claim, fees for removing the broken shutter from the window, freight fees to and from your home or fees for reinstalling the repaired shutters. So what's the point of dealing with a reputable company who provide a long warranty if they're going to rip you off when one of their products fails? Has anyone made a warranty claim on a window covering? If so, what was your experience? Thanks, Jamie Re: Plantation Shutters and Warranties 2May 04, 2008 9:29 am Quote: Basically, the fine print says the warranty does not cover a call out fee for the company to inspect the blinds when you make a warranty claim, fees for removing the broken shutter from the window, freight fees to and from your home or fees for reinstalling the repaired shutters. Sounds prety reasonable to me. The blinds are covered for faulty workmanship - but all labour costs are not. Do you have reference to any other products of the same price range and potential labour installation costs that DOES cover the above? Steve Re: Plantation Shutters and Warranties 3May 23, 2008 2:36 pm No but my point is what's the point of having a warranty if you put in so many disclaimers that it costs the owner almost as much to replace a faulty shutter as to install a new one. Hence, no warranty claims.
It's like saying a car part (worth say $500) is covered by warranty but the labour isn't and the manufacturer will charge $1000 to install a new part. What's the point of the warranty? It basically shows the companies have no confidence in their products, because they expect the purchaser to wear all the costs apart from the re-manufacturing cost, which is low compared to the price they sell the shutters for.
