Re: Double glazing v. laminated glass 22Jun 16, 2015 2:51 pm Hi ED Thank you for all of your answer here, much helpful We live very close to motorway. And our window are 4mm normal glass. We have a quote for a double glazing with 4mm Clear on 4mm Clear. Could you please compare it with a hush 6.76mm glass option? Which one is better for sounds reduction? For the double glazing option, we can have acoustic glass option as well, it will charge more for sure. It's the total thickness of the glass that makes a difference, plus the seal on the window and around the window. 4/12/4 will be quite good, 4/12/6 will be better as the different thicknesses work better together. If you want to add laminated glass, that's up to you, in our testing it made a difference of 1dB over the same thickness of standard glass, which is indiscernible. Our 4/12/4 reduces noise by 34.5dB, which is a lot, every 3dB being a halving of noise. But before you do all that, get some plywood or MDF the same size as your wall opening, wrap a doona around the timber and push it in to seal the window... if this makes a difference, then so will double glazing, if not, then there are many other issues contributing to the noise entering the home, like the roof and walls.
