Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jul 04, 2013 7:45 pm Hello all! My first post after stalking for many months! I have a few questions and requests for advice!! 1) I have just purchased my first home, and am staring to do little renovations. I've painted the inside 'Castle Grey' by Wattyl, with white trim. Whilst I love the contrast with the white, I'm not to keen on it for the outside of the house. I've seen a few pictures of similar colour bricks with a dark charcoal or black trim and thinking this might work! I am looking at Kelp Black from Dulux, and will paint gutters, windows, carport and fences. (Will also get the roof done in same colour down the track) See colour here: http://www.andiamolandscaping.com.au/wp ... image2.jpg This is a photo of my house and window. I have two identical windows at the front of the house. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 2) Does anyone know the particular name for this brick? I have been googling for inspiration, but so far all I have managed to find are post war cream bricks which look similar. 3) The windows have a few coats on them already (and have been painted shut!!) - Is it best to sand the windows all the way back before painting, or can i sand lightly and go over again in a darker colour? Thanks in advance!! Re: What colour to paint windows? 2Jul 18, 2013 2:07 pm Hey nomomojo, Congrats on the new purchase, looks a lot like our first House in Bell Park:) We had the same problem googling also. In the end we drove around our suburb and the ones surrounding (which pretty much had the same color and style of house) for inspiration. In the end we chose Dulux colorbond woodland grey, which is pretty close to kelp black. And being a colorbond color we had no probs with roofing. As far as the windows go, it might be a good idea to give them a light sand. We took one of our windows right back to nearly bare timber and had too much repairing to do before we could paint it again. Use oil base undercoat. The reason is that oil based undercoat will stick to and cover both water based and oil based paint. Also, you can paint over it with both water based and oil based paint. If you put water based paint straight onto oil based paint (not oil based undercoat) it will peel and flake. I hope this helps:) Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7148 Thank you. That is really helpful. Once we get the place done and passed for OC we can upgrade in the future once we get back on our feet and not paying mortgage and rent. 4 5713 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Hi there, I just recently received my new house from my builder.
