Browse Forums Windows & Doors Re: Stackers, bi-folds and flyscreens 8Jun 26, 2013 8:20 pm Mudhoney ed @ ecoclassic The temperature differences in Australia which vary by up to 50 degrees, make large windows and doors impractical due to the linear coefficient of expansion for PVC being 5x that of steel, so PVC grows by 6mm over 2000mm over 50 degrees C. Dark colours exacerbate the problem, as surface temperatures can easily exceed 100 degrees, softening the PVC and expanding even more than 6mm. Then there are bushfires... PVC melts at 160 degrees C. etc... Ed So if I'm doing stackers, the panel size will be limited. What is a reasonable size limit for a PVC panel? Not so important in sliding windows and doors, as they have such wide tolerances. Critical in awning and casement windows, and hinged doors.
