Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jun 13, 2013 12:31 pm Hi (anyone who can help) We are after some coverings for three very large windows. We looked at dual roller blinds (for privacy) but husband decided they wouldnt let in the breezes in summer. We then decided to look at plantation shutters (which we both love)....... My head now hurts from all the different names/materials/opinions and prices differences between quotes!! I'm just after some shutters, that will look nice, withstand the S/E QLD summer humidity (and one of the windows is in a kitchen) and not fall apart in a years time BUT not be the top of the range with the top of the range price tag. For the same three windows I have quotes ranging from $2400 up to $4695. So - anyone able to give me some advice about PVC or ABS or custom craft or basswoood or 2pack covered???????? And I thought the stress would go down AFTER building!!!!! sarat Re: Plantation shutters - which material to use????? 2Jun 13, 2013 1:18 pm The majority of my shutters are custom craft (painted High Density Fibre). They don't recommend you use this material in wet areas. For this I used ABS, and you cannot tell the difference between them at all. I also had to use ABS in the largest window in the lounge room, as the custom craft would have been too heavy for the hinges to support it. There was a maximum width to use the custom craft. FWIW, I used these guys: http://www.timbershades.com.au/ and thought they were brilliant. $10K for 17 separate windows, mostly 2 panel, but 2 sets of bi-folds (4 panel) also. That does explain it a bit more clearly! Also sounds like you got a good deal with $10K for 17 windows, when I'm looking at $4 for 3 windows. I shall email timbershades for a quotw, cheers. Was the ABS shutter you used more expensive than the custom craft shutters?? Custom craft was the cheapest material to use, which didn't bother me as they were to be painted Good luck!! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!!
