Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 May 21, 2013 11:10 am Hello we did housesitting for 10 days in a 40 yr old property which is as close to the beach as ours, about 1km in Perth. This house has a raked, low pitched roof. Inside the roof seems to be painted plywood or so, outside colourbond, no insulation. The walls is a mix of double brick and timber stud walls. The property is higher up, similar to a 3rd floor flat. Large old trees are at the back of the house, the living rooms face south, but also get some light from the east Our house is 16 yrs old (see plan), double brick, normal roof and insulated ceilings. The windows are almost all 193cm high. The entrance faces north, the bedrooms south and west. Both houses have timber flooring, ours completely on concret slab, the other house has a room under the timber framed floor. About the same floor space too. @Ed which type of double glazed windows would you suggest for each side of our house to make it warmer in winter and to reduce noise north and west? Thanks regards Evelin Re: My house is too cold 2Jun 10, 2013 11:09 am What is the living area aspect ? North aspect means warmer in winter. As the sun is higher in summer it won't mean hotter in summer. Aspect and the clever use of windows etc means a cheaper living cost. Aspect is always the key in planning a house IMO. It beats all the insulation, glazing, material questions hands down. BUT - if you are built you have to look at insulation et al. Depends how much direct sun it gets. Is there any shading (eaves or trees)? If the sun hits a window directly it doesn't matter too much if it's double or single… 1 10093 Hi guys, I want to butt a concrete vegetable garden bed against a concrete build up of a carport. Are you in a high intensity rainfall region? The regulatory slope is only required… 3 5254 |
