Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Apr 10, 2013 10:40 pm We are wondering if anyone has the reflective tint on their windows or doors? We are thinking about getting it done on the front door and side section panel. Is it worth it? How much did it cost? Re: window tinting for front glass door - yay or nay? 3Apr 14, 2013 10:00 am Pellana We are getting it on our back windows and all up it is costing $1k and that is for approximately 7.5m x 2.1ms of glass Thanks. We are only thinking about the small front side panels at the moment then will decide if to put it on the back windows of the house Build start April 2013 - Handover End July 2013. I think it was something like $275 around a year ago. No one can see anything during the day but you can see in at night with interior lights on. No regrets. Re: window tinting for front glass door - yay or nay? 5Apr 14, 2013 1:41 pm We have tint on glass panels of our front door. No regrets. Will be doing it again at new house as well as all front windows Re: window tinting for front glass door - yay or nay? 6Jun 12, 2013 12:31 am I think it’s a good idea. You should also try them for the windows. Re: window tinting for front glass door - yay or nay? 7Jun 12, 2013 2:53 am We have all the front windows tinted, not reflective though. It looks ordinary if you just do one so hopefully you can afford to pay for all. Ours was around $1000 but included around 10 windows in total. We also had a contact do it. Probably a quarter of that cost to have it as tinted glass, right from the start. Just an estimate would be great. For everyone following this is what our front door looks like. It's cheaper to use film for retrofit. Next time!!! Thanks Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. It cost about $300 for them to do it. One small point... some films can be a problem with double glazing, ask your window supplier first. Might suss that out & just tint the front bedrooms at the front of the house. smorgzzz - What company did you use? as ours will be done after handover also Ed if you buy it through the building company the mark up is ridiculous hence why we will be doing it all after handover. Even our sales person told us not to bother Build start April 2013 - Handover End July 2013. Even our sales person told us not to bother It should be 20%. I know what you mean. But ask anyway. The sales people may be being lazy. If it's single glazed, my estimate is $100-$150/m2 for replacement glass, frosted or tinted. Try a glazier, it may be an option. Ed Just out of curiosity, why would film be any different on double glazing? Ed Just out of curiosity, why would film be any different on double glazing? It can cause one pane of the double glazed unit to overheat and expand, then overheat the seal, and the air, increase the pressure, cause a leak and lead to condensation. In Europe, the film people tell you what is suitable, not sure they have enough experience here. My house is fitted with your windows and a couple are going to have film applied to 1700mm above FFL for overlooking requirements. Even more reason to peel it off a few months after handover...
