Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Feb 26, 2013 4:36 pm Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can shed any light on how hard it would be to convert a single glaze window into a double glaze window post handover? Does the entire window frame need to be replaced as well? I'm in the contract stage with a builder and the double glazing quote seems excessive so am trying to understand if there is a way to upgrade post handover. Thanks! Depending on how flexible your builder is you would be better off taking the glazing out of the contract and sourcing them yourselves. How much more is he asking and how much glass do you need? The builder has quoted (roughly) - $12,000 for double glazing to be applied to ~80% of the windows. This seems excessive as when I spoke to Stegbar they had indicated that the cost difference between a single glaze and double glaze was only ~15%. consider putting in wall WC instead of robe in the same bedroom, then it might be doable to hook up to the existing piping. 4 6612 This is one of the reasons I decided to go overseas for my double glazed windows.
