Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Dec 04, 2012 11:16 am Hi, Just wondering if anybody could give me some rough costs on pivot entrance doors vs double entrance doors. We are in the process of getting plans drawn up and we cant decide on which door to get. If there is a cost difference I'm sure that will make up our minds Thanks Re: Pivot door vs double door entrance cost 2Dec 04, 2012 11:26 am I cant help with the cost issue, however if you're building a house with a modern look, i think (imho) that a nice big pivot door looks amazing especially if you have high ceiling and can raise the height of the door.. If you're building a house with a traditional look then double doors would be better with that look... imo. Re: Pivot door vs double door entrance cost 4Dec 04, 2012 3:37 pm Cost for pivot doors varies between 4 & 6 thousand, depending on what door, height etc. Then you have to include whatever the builders margin on top. Most margins are around 20 percent, so would cost yourself as a client anywhere from $4800 to $7000. You can put a 1200km wide door on hinges for a bit cheaper, these can range anywhere from $2500 to $4500. Again, depends on the door, height etc. Double standard entry doors will be your cheapest option, will only be a couple hundred if that to upgrade from a single door. 2 Pivot door vs double door entrance cost 5Dec 04, 2012 7:10 pm I've put a 2340x1200 door on hinges. You can tell the door is heavy ~ 65kg but the door moves freely. I used 4 heavy duty ball bearing hinges, normal hinges won't stand a chance. I couldn't justify the cost of a pivot system. Re: Pivot door vs double door entrance cost 6Jan 16, 2013 12:47 pm Hi does anyone know the width of entrance needs to be to fit a 1200mm door? Thanks Re: Pivot door vs double door entrance cost 7Jan 16, 2013 2:58 pm I wanted to make a 'sweaping' statement with our home (being built - reckon a Feb move in) and a front door is that statement. Hence I picked: Quote: Provide 2340 x 1020 Pivot Door Infinity INFWS 5VG with clear glass and Pull Handle 9248PH750 Horizon in Lieu of 2040mm high Hinged door - Madison PMAD I4G with clear glass. Unquote. Cost all up including the mortise lock thingy: $4200 From all accounts, as yet we haven't seen our home (we're in WA, house being built in VIC) is that it looks fantastic. That's from family and friends. So, my thoughts are go with the pivot door, where size does count. Its a Stain Grade with 4 wide translucent glass panels (hume savoy style from memory) The door it replaced was single standard size with 2 sidelights. Would be a bit more if you only have a single door as standard. If you wan't to be able to fit a screen door at some point, I have been told you can't with a pivot door. We are going to, breaks my heart to cover the door, but it faces west and thats where the breeze comes from so we are, and the extra width will be handy for getting furniture in!
