Just wanted to know the cost difference between aluminium double glazed windows and upvc double glazed. Cheers, Tippy Toes Aluminium alone can vary in price by as much as 50%, and PVC can vary similarly - quality varies by at least this much - so asking the price difference has little meaning. But a very rough guide would have PVC 30% dearer. There are builders' quality aluminium windows, but PVC windows come in one standard. It should really tip in favour of PVC, but the reality is local supply is not in any volume, so PVC is really at bespoke prices. Well, the experts above (Ed) has spoken..... Ciao Mark Re: Cost Difference between aluminium and upvc windows 5Oct 28, 2012 6:30 pm Thanks for the information Ed, much appreciated. I can now go to the builder and attempt to come up with a reasonable price in negotiations. I really want uPVC!! Thanks to, Aussie Mark, even though you misread it. Cheers, Re: Cost Difference between aluminium and upvc windows 6Oct 29, 2012 12:12 pm If I may comment briefly ... every volume project-home builder I've encountered in Sydney, who turns out an end-product that looks half-decent, uses window suppliers who do not make thermally-broken aluminium windows. Every WERS rating page I've seen for these aluminium windows is a lot worse than EcoClassic. Now wood; wood windows I've seen achieving similar WERS ratings to EcoClassics' ... however we're kinda scared of the maintenance required with wood (I'm very apt to forgetting to maintain stuff, especially house-related stuff), and the wooden stacker-door prices I just compared to a price Ed quoted in another thread shows me that wood's probably about twice the price too. 3 4167 I don't know them all, the first 2 top of your list are best known.
