Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Sep 17, 2012 2:32 am I'm having aluminium windows installed for a double brick house. Window frames were installed after the bricking and were measured prior to fabrication. I'm noticing most windows frames have about a 15mm gap at the bottom where it meets the brick. This surprised me as I thought it would be a tighter fit as I wasn't expecting any reveals or architraves. However there is one window however where the gap is double this at about 32mm. Is there a problem with this? How do they close off the gap and finish this off nicely. Will there be an issue with water or air leakage? The only way that you have a gap on the inside sill (as per photos) is for the outside brickwork was higher than the inside brickwork, which sometimes can happen. the most this should be would be 10mm or so. Going by the photos these windows look short in the hight rather than the brickwork being higher on the outside, especially if you are not having timber a sill. Also I notice that there was no fixings on the bottom of the window. the only way it can be finished off now would be to use something like a 40 to 50mm angle to cover gap. Windows should be sitting hard on the sill (brickwork) as it allows for weight of the window. The window needs to be level so that it operates properly and placing it on a sill won't guarantee that, as the sill will not necessarily be level. So we would have packers exactly as shown, at the jambs and at the mullion (though the gap is rather large). I would assume that the plaster will cover the gap, I also assume the window is finished to the brickwork on the outside. The gaps at the jambs are unusual, and I see the windows are already glazed (unusual in WA), so were the openings made in the brickwork before the windows were installed?
