Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Aug 17, 2012 8:26 am At the moment we are finally in the process of getting quotes for flyscreen doors on our glass sliding doors - we have 3 doors, one of which is a double sliding door (2 doors open in the middle), so it is 4 screen doors all up. As these doors are in our secure (or as secure as you can make it) backyard I am not particularly interested in grilles and security doors (I did get a price for Clear Guard Supascreen and nearly had a heart attack at $4K) plus I don't want to interrupt our views. That being said, I would like the doors to be as durable as possible and there seems to be as many options of mesh as there are companies who make the said doors... We have 2 children, who are not rough but they are kids, and we have a small dog who has a bad habit of scratching at the door to get let in (like running with his front paws) - so would likely do the same to the screen doors. The last guy who came to quote recommended the "pet mesh"/paw proof mesh, but this is only one step up from the basic fly wire which would be in holes in no time. They also have "Tuff mesh" and "Microtech" mesh (not sure of the difference between the 2) - both of which are aluminium and the Microtech mesh stated that it is specifically designed for pets and children, and which I would have thought to be the best option, but he was dead against it because according to him it dents easily and then you are stuck with a door that doesn't look nice. I am totally confused with options and don't know whether to trust their recommendation or if they have bigger profit margins on some products so push them? I have no experience with screen doors, so anyone with some experience who is willing to recommend something would be great!!! Second Time 'Round Re: Screen doors - too confusing! 2Aug 18, 2012 10:06 pm Hi there, I have a bit of experience with screen doors...been selling Amplimesh Supascreen for 12 years now. Purchasing this type of security screen can be expensive but it is a "set and forget" purchase. You will have security, clear view and never need to remesh ever again. People or pets going through you screen door just will not happen, they will bounce off it. Pawproof flyswire, petmesh, microtech mesh, tuff mesh are great products (I sell them every day) but are still only held in with spline or rivets (tuff mesh or micro tech mesh that is) it does ding very badly and then goes "saggy" in the frame so when you slide the doors or stack them back they will rub on each other.....not cool....you'll here this dragging sound! As for profit margins, the percentage margins in flyscreens are probably higher than the Amplimesh product anyway. but if you want to never have to touch these doors again except for cleaning then go the stainless steel security option. You will not look back Re: Screen doors - too confusing! 3Aug 20, 2012 2:39 pm Considering these are sliding doors, I don't understand how they could be secure - couldn't you just lift them off the tracks? Or failing that, break a window to get in. Is stainless steel mesh really that much stronger than the powder coated aluminium mesh (Tuff/Micro mesh)?
