Long time lurker first time poster.
I was hoping to get some opinions and advice around window options for the three of the windows in our future house. I'm not sure what they are normally referred to but the architect has labelled them as 'highlight' windows on the plans. They are somewhere between 3.5 - 5 metres off the ground to let in natural light from the entry hallway corridor and in our open plan lounge / kitchen. The hallway window is 600mm high by 2.1 metres wide (0621) and the two in the lounge/kitchen are 600mm high by 1.8 metres wide (0618).
I'm not sure whether to stick with awning style windows or change them to fixed. Initially I was going to get awning with automation so they can be opened by remote/switch (as otherwise would need a ladder to open/close them). Now I'm just wondering if it is worth going to the extra trouble/cost in running extra power/motors there. It may also be a nicer effect with fixed windows as I don't think you need that vertical support bar in the middle of the window (mullion?) for the sizes we are looking at so it would just be one big pane of glass. I haven't confirmed but I think fixed might be a bit cheaper than an opening window as well.
If we got opening windows I don't know if these would contribute a great deal to ventilation but I guess could maybe help with heat escape in summer.
Interested to see anyone else's thoughts on this!
Thanks
