Silly question but how do the window winders work (I think we might have had them at school!)? The one I'm picturing is a winder mounted on a wall that opens the window above it. I just can't remember how the winding action converted into the window actually opening. Are all the chains/levers or whatever hidden in the wall cavity for it to work or is it some other system (a long stick/broom with a special connection that you grab out and plug into the winder when you need to open/close the windows ). It's an independent long handle with a hook on the end. The chainwinder has a loop instead of a knob. Very effective.
