Our window distributor (*#!^) rang today and told us that not only are they 4 weeks behind with our order BUT they have made a mistake with our bedroom window and cant manufacture it because it exceeds their engineering tolerances. Now I'm a patient type of person but this is pushing my tolerances . Window 1 was to be one large window 3180 x 2110 divided into three. They now say we cannot have the centre pane as an awning as designed. Can you think of alternatives. Have to give them an answer tomorrow as they are making them over the Easter weekend. I'm tempted to ask for bifolds but that will put as back 3 weeks more. However as they made the mistake they have to pay for the difference. Option 1: bifold with matching bifold upstairs Option 2: split the middle window pane with 2 cross members to create 5 panes of glass Option 3: split the 3 window panes at the top to match the upstairs windows (upper right side of elevation) Have been thinking we could have option 3, with two outside panes opening at the top and middle section opening at the bottom. All as awning windows: Any thoughts???? Front elevation is south west. Window treatments wouldn't change much ... was thinking of panel glides anyway due to large windows. Window at the top could be reached by hubby . Re: Probs with Windows ... what next?? 4Mar 19, 2008 11:25 pm I think you need to think what you want to achieve with the windows
and decide on that..also what the room is for and whether you want it to open out entirely (if youre thinking bifold) or just let breeze in (awning) etc is it a lounge or bedroom etc? re bifold option....the top window doesnt look like a bifold? Re: Probs with Windows ... what next?? 5Mar 19, 2008 11:28 pm bec I think you need to think what you want to achieve with the windows and decide on that..also what the room is for and whether you want it to open out entirely (if youre thinking bifold) or just let breeze in (awning) etc is it a lounge or bedroom etc? re bifold option....the top window doesnt look like a bifold? the downstairs room that we are speaking of is our main bedroom. upstairs will turn into a bifold if we make our bedroom window a bifold. We defintiely want good airflow but a bifold will hold us back three weeks + there are security issues. Re: Probs with Windows ... what next?? 6Mar 19, 2008 11:39 pm and privacy issues? what does the bedroom face?
is there a view from the bedroom or need to open it right out? Id probably match it to top right windows myself option 3 were your plans drawn by a draftsman? if so you should refer it to him hopefully others will give opinion soon Re: Probs with Windows ... what next?? 7Mar 20, 2008 8:19 am DeeElle Window 1 was to be one large window 3180 x 2110 divided into three. They now say we cannot have the centre pane as an awning as designed. Why do you have to have all panes openable? We have an awning window with three panes in our bedroom (but not as big as yours) and only the two side panes open up. When they're both fully open they let in quite a bit of air. *Sorry to hear about the issue with the windows Dy! Like Missy we have a similar window but not as big in our master bedroom. Ours is 3 panes and the two outer ones are awning. Is that an option? Alternatively i would select option 3 for 3 separate windows and it would match the upstairs RHS of the facade.* Amazing isn't it that they couldn't have told you all this before you commenced building???? I mean really, how *(&%#^@ stupid can they be???? Good Luck.... P!!!!! Pm sent! Michelle Re: Probs with Windows ... what next?? 9Mar 20, 2008 12:23 pm hi everyone thanks for the replies
We can't change the window size as the builder has already completed the frame. I guess they could make the opening smaller but this will cause other issues. The middle pane is the only one that opens fully as an awning on the plan but they are saying it is too large and the glass is too heavy for a fully opening awning. As such they are suggesting we have an extra horizontal bar across the top of all three panes which would create smaller opening areas (similar to the top windows). The window distributor accepted the plan and have ordered everything and now realize they cant do it as it is not within tolerances . Talk about last minute decisions. The builder and draftsman are in hiding so I am guessing the know I am cranky . . Re: Probs with Windows ... what next?? 10Mar 20, 2008 6:13 pm And your choice was?
I;'d do the same as the upstairs right. Being a sw facing part of the house, and downstairs, bi folds will not be opened a lot, and the 3 single awnings gives lots of secure slightly windows opened and comfort options. That way it will look more uniform. I agree that putting in bi-folds to the front low level of the house would have security issues. Therefore, you won't be opening it that much.. so what's the use of putting in bi-folds then? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! i imagine you also have another contract with an architect? and yeah, whatever other's said about special conditions and appendices 16 16026 Hi all I am looking to run a water line under my concrete footpath which is directly next to my home, was seeing if this is possible without cutting the entire section… 0 20189 Did you know that you can get rugs made from carpet?
