Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jun 25, 2012 5:54 pm My building experience thus far has mostly been with domestic frame windows whereby the fly screens are either held in with rotating tabs or slide into an upper recess and then drop into the lower recess. My screens were installed onto my commercial frame windows last week so I was a bit disappointed today when on inspection they are held in with velcro tabs - is this the experience of others with commercial frames. Then there is the issue of the screens not being square, torn screens and the screens for the stacking doors not sealing against each other leaving a gap between the screens of about 12mm - I hope this is an oversight which is to be addresses Re: Flyscreens on commercial frame windows 2Jun 25, 2012 6:14 pm amgsl55 My building experience thus far has mostly been with domestic frame windows whereby the fly screens are either held in with rotating tabs or slide into an upper recess and then drop into the lower recess. Ed I was hoping to hear from your experience. So I guess I have to put up with the velcro then. Re: Flyscreens on commercial frame windows 4Aug 18, 2012 10:32 pm Like Ed said, Commercial windows are usually not designed to accommodate Flyscreens. We have in the past come up with a solution to suit the window including Velcro dots, Angles, swivel clips and the like. As far as the flyscreen doors go, they made need an angle or an interlock to fill the gaps? It's a common problem that we get called out to. Re: Flyscreens on commercial frame windows 5Aug 19, 2012 9:59 am A progress report so far. I have made contact numerous times with the company requesting an onsite meeting with a company supervisor but no response provided until last week when one of the owners of the company was informed about the issue. He was kind enough to call me and will be meeting me on site tomorrow to go over the issues. My builder and architect have been equally unimpressed with the product so far. With regards to the velcro tabs - The screens are held on so strongly that you need to wedge a screw driver between the frame and the screen to remove the screen. The upstairs screens are way out of square, and one in particular is twisted with one corner not even sitting flush with the windows. In some sections of the frames the screen slides and is held in by recesses where as in other sections velcro tabs are used not just to hold them in place but also used as packers to prop some screens up which have not been cut to the correct size. A friend of mine who also recently built and used commercial frames has screens held in by rotating tabs. Re: Flyscreens on commercial frame windows 6Aug 20, 2012 5:58 pm Met with the owner of the window company on site. He had a look at all that was done and agreed that the quality of the screens is substandard and will be replacing all of them. He also notice that he doggy doors installed on 2 large panels were installed incorrectly - new glass to be provided and the doggy doors to be reinstalled. Some of the window frames had the wrong profiles installed - this is to be addressed. He also agreed velcro is not the answer and will change the retention system to a slide pin. All in all, he was embarrassed by the standard that was delivered and more embarrassed that it was actually signed off by one of their supervisors. This is 100% true. You can not hang anything on steel frames. very frustrating 8 5345 This certainly doesn't look good. I would be engaging with an independent inspector to have a look at this.
