Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jun 09, 2012 7:53 pm We're looking at having a project home built, and their window supplier is Stegbar. I'd be pretty sure they could be convinced to install anything, but of course it'd be extra if it wasn't Stegbar as they've undoubtedly got a volume deal. Anyhoo, the Stegbar site doesn't say much about how their double-glazed windows are constructed. They seem to sell a "standard" aluminium window, and one which is aluminium on the outside & wood on the inside; my guess is the part of the frame which touches the glass is probably wood on the latter, as they appear to have considerably better WERS rating than the "plain old" aluminium ones. Anyhoo, to take an example, it appears the aluminium sliding doors average to about a 3.5-4 star "heat" rating, and about a 2 star "cool" rating. The fancy "Siteline" ones look to average about 5 stars on the "heat" rating and about 2 to 2.5 on the "cool" rating. So I'm wondering - are those ratings any good? Would it be worth spending a few thousand more to go with a different brand which is better? The "Siteline" ones I'm guessing are a decentish rating, but they may be short on options ... Re: What're decent star-ratings for double-glazed doors/wind 2Jun 09, 2012 8:54 pm WERS is a good site to check. Stegbar: http://werssearch.freehostia.com/result ... &image.y=9 EcoClassic, for example: http://werssearch.freehostia.com/tables ... cturer=ECO I upgraded from a single glazed southern star window to eco classic, that was obviously a large difference Re: What're decent star-ratings for double-glazed doors/wind 3Jun 09, 2012 9:16 pm We are using Siteline windows in our upcoming build as well as a custom joinery for the double hung double glazed colonial barred windows and the multi-fold doors. The SiteLine design comes from America where it has been on sale for a number of years now. Stegbar is owned by Jen-Weld, an American conglomerate in the building game hence Stegbar's ability to leverage their U.S designs. http://www.jeld-wen.com/catalog/windows ... ood/awning DW really wanted timber windows but I wasn't painting them all every few years! so we had settled for Ed's windows. However I went looking for a composite window for two reasons, thermal separation (to overcome the fact that aluminium is a super conductor) and to give DW the timber effect she wants on the inside. Luckily for me (or not!!) my draftsman took 4 months and the structural engineers 2 months to do their bit and in that time Stegbar released the SiteLine range. Dont know the rules or the independentance of the WERS ratings but its all we mortals have to compare windows. http://werssearch.freehostia.com/tables ... er=stegbar Compare the uw values of their standard single glazed aluminium awning window (STG-002-01) = 6.3uw with their double glazed 4/12/4 aluminium window (STG-001-23)= 4.2uw and then the Siteline 4/12/4 awning (STG-053-01) = 2.3uw and the corresponding increase in heating and cooling, the Siteline windows rate really well. Almost as well as their cedar all timber 4/12/4 awning windows but with the huge bonus of being aluminium on the outside (no painting) and timber on the inside. In my opinion these improved figures are mostly a result of the composite construction method and not of anything specific that Stegbar/Jen-Weld have done. As to build quality....well only time will tell. Regards RiH A new standard to meet... our EcoTech aluminium window rates Uw 3.5 with clear glass, and our thermally broken aluminium window reaches 3.2Uw, also with clear glass and around 2.4Uw with Low-E... we will have to try harder... but what price is the Siteline window? Thanks Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. While I can't answer that exactly, when trying to compare prices on the Stegbar site it appeared their Siteline stuff was a pretty similar price to their timber frames, and generally about 2.5x the price of their aluminium windows (which themselves rated absolutely nowhere as well as yours). I don't know them all, the first 2 top of your list are best known. Rylock is a good company, Stegbar is for sale. 4 16242 I’m in a similar position except I’m after sliding 3 stacking doors.
