Browse Forums Windows & Doors Re: What do I need to know the size of a reveal for? 2May 22, 2012 11:22 am amir1234 Can anyone explain to me what relevance does the size of a reveal and wall materials have when it comes to aluminium window and door installation? Cheers. The reveal is the timber lining attached around the window or door, it is used to attach the window or door to the timber house frame (if a timber frame is used). The reveal extends into the room to be flush with the plaster and the reveal also has the architrave nailed to it. The depth of the reveals depends on the depth of the wall and how far the window or door is recessed into the brickwork (or weatherboard or whatever). The window supplier usually calculates the reveal sizes based upon the plans and includes this in your quote. If you change your wall construction after ordering windows, the supplier will need to recalculate the reveal depth.
