Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 May 15, 2012 3:53 pm Hello all I am thinking of getting curtains for sliding doors in the family room. The rest of the windows in that room will have roller binds. The overall look in the house is modern and contemporary. The curtains I am thinking of are in an off-white color, thick, and with that insulating material at the back. I also want them to be either pencil pleated or inverted as I think that will go well with the overall look of the room. To save dollars I want to install them myself... small caveat here I am really not a DIY er.. and I am not sure if I am biting off more than I can chew. So my questions are: 1. Am I heading in the right direction with pencil pleats or inverted for a contemporary look and which of those 2 would you recommend. 2. Can I buy ready to hang thick pencil pleat or inverted pleat curtains from stores like Spotlight, Harris Scarf etc? In your experience have you needed to sew, shorten ready to hang curtains? Or am I better off ordering custom made curtains for better quality? 3. Should I be looking at curtain rods or curtain tracks for thick curtains? Are tracks better from an insulation point of view? 4. And lastly, are tracks "easy" to install for a 1st time DIYer who will have access to plenty of you tube videos? Thanks! Re: queries on curtains for contemporary look, self-installi 2May 15, 2012 5:04 pm Hi sumsub, we saw some inverted pleat curtains in Spotlight on the weekend .. we have inverted pleats in our family room and it does look great. You should be able to put them up yourself so long as you find a noggin to screw the curtain rod/track into ... I'd recommend curtain rod/tracks with strings at the side so you don't have to pull the curtains across yourself. Hope that makes sense ... Here's a pic but we've got darker tracks now - the wrong colour was installed ... Re: queries on curtains for contemporary look, self-installi 4May 17, 2012 1:52 pm Hi McLaren , were these ordered? What type of treacks are these?? I was looking for white "high-ish" tracks similar to these but they were non existent (all I saw were just the thin types ) ! Also, do you find the curtains "falling out" from the tracking system? Any chance to show us the actual hanging system, ie. the little rollers and hooks and all the tiny "hardware" stuff that is required to hang the curtains? BTW, I love the inverted look. There are definitely both pencil pleat and inverted curtains at Spotlight, just saw them the other day. I think you can't go wrong with either of them. Would you be able (some time in the future, not urgent) to take a behind-the-scenes picture of the little hardware (hooks and stuff while hanging on the track)? Or is it just normal stuff ?? but what's normal these days!! Love the track! My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ...
