Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 May 11, 2012 9:21 pm We have a pivot door that is bounded by aluminium framed glass panels (BAL40). Due to the thickness of the Al section (just over 100mm wide), normal strike plates don't cut it, and I don't really want something that stick out from the Al anyway. Are there strike plates, ideally in stainless steel, that can be recessed into the Al section in a cutout? I need something that has two holes, as the door auto-bolts when close, and the trigger mechanism is between the normal latch and the bolt in the mortice lock. Re: Recessed door strike 2May 12, 2012 8:05 pm This is always a problem PHL. Most striker plates are set for 40mm doors, set at the front of a door frame, but pivots lie in the middle of a 100mm frame. We often allow the tongue to hit the frame and fit a standard striker inside the frame, a crude solution. @builderforlife Building inspector and passionate about construction When you need an expert to take a look. Re: Recessed door strike 3May 12, 2012 10:51 pm Do you cut out the curve portion of the strike and screw it in? In which case would it not be proud of the frame? In our case, it looked pretty bad... If this is a common problem, I'm surprised no one has come up with a solution. Looks like a visit to the stainless steel shop and custom making something... Re: Recessed door strike 4May 13, 2012 7:46 am There is a latch plate with an extended tounge you can get for the mortice locks. Has the Al jamb already a recess for the latch plate to sit in? If the jamb manufacturers have done this I imagine they have a latch plate to fit. Re: Recessed door strike 6May 14, 2012 7:32 pm Threy are often fitted flush on the aluminium. I find that the extended tongue latches are not long enough @builderforlife Building inspector and passionate about construction When you need an expert to take a look. Re: Recessed door strike 7May 15, 2012 10:04 am PHL, What you want is one of these, assuming your not using a mortice lock. They are available through gainsborough. http://www.wahardware.com.au/trilock-ex ... 96268.html Accessible Carpentry & Cabinets accessiblecarpentry@gmail.com accessiblecarpentry.com.au https://www.facebook.com/pages/Accessible-Carpentry-Cabinets/583314911709039 Re: Recessed door strike 8May 16, 2012 5:46 pm Nice! @builderforlife Building inspector and passionate about construction When you need an expert to take a look. Re: Recessed door strike 10Jun 14, 2012 11:15 pm An update; managed to get an extended strike plate from Sydney Woodworkers (I think they are also in Qld). They have it for various configurations, including mortice locks, and difference widths. Their guide for pivot doors was also helpful. Hi Stuey, think you’ve got a couple of options here you’d just need to decide your preference/which options suits best.
