Browse Forums Windows & Doors Re: Alternatives to Bifolds 22Mar 07, 2008 11:39 am I have friends with both kinds of screens - the invisable one retracted from one side to the other so when the sliders were open the screen cant be seen (I should know nearly walked through it and cost me a bundle) It was easy to use - just slide open walk through and close behind you.
the other is the screen that meets in the middle and has a magnet lock system, the problem with that one is you have to open both sides to go in or out and when the sliding door is quite wide its a pain to get one side then reach for the other side to close them again. Paula Re: Alternatives to Bifolds 27Mar 07, 2008 5:14 pm When I lived in Brisbane we had bifolds - so no flyscreens. It was awful. I hated them. Not only did you get flys during the day, but unless you shut them before sundown you'd get clouds of mozzies as well. Awful, utterly impractical, and in no way suited to local conditions. Re: Alternatives to Bifolds 28Mar 07, 2008 7:02 pm Hmmmm we have bi-folds and have had the occasional fly in the house but no more then we would get anyway with two kids coming in and out all day anyway !!!
We adore our bi-folds ! I also have been using the mortein window stickers and if flys do come in they don't last very long anyway Evening is the biggest problem but we have found if the alfreco fan is on and also an outside light then we don't get any unwanted insects in the house. But you're in Victoria. Brisbane is bug city. Re: Alternatives to Bifolds 31Mar 07, 2008 9:10 pm What about bi-part sliding doors?
They look a bit nicer than standard sliders, and are more practical for screening than french doors or bifolds. Door choice really depends on your lifestyle and the wall size. Personally I would keep the ceiling height and ditch the bifolds - but we built in a mozzie zone!! Re: Alternatives to Bifolds 32Mar 07, 2008 9:52 pm I have never heard of these Lyn - off to google now
I am pretty convinced we won't do the bifolds now...leaning towards stacker doors with either timber venetians or panel glide (just hoping that a panel glide will look ok if all the other window dressings are venetians/plantation shutters) ive got an alternative for you!!! 33Mar 12, 2008 2:48 pm there are also aluminium bifolds in the market. check out this website and have a look at some they have on display:
www.carlislehomes.com.au yes stacker doors look very much like sliding doors. i dont really like them, in my opinion. aluminium bifolds 34Mar 12, 2008 3:07 pm i forgot to add..
these bifolds are actually the same or maybe even more expensive than timber bifols. the good thing with these is that u can get them in corner units. u'll get wat i mean when u go to www.carlislehomes.com.au and click on the ATLANTIQUE MK 2. keep clicking 'MORE IMAGES' until u are onto the second house. click it once more and u will see the picture of kitchen/alfresco. thats the corner unit that im talking about. these aluminium bifolds can come in a white color i think, or is it a light grey? not so sure, but its really up to u. stacker doors are equivalent pricing as well! PS. we are taking the sliding doors - its standard and its free. I think they look similar to the aluminium bifolds and stacker doros, so werae trying to 'hide' it a bit! good luck with choosing, andrew 11 23181 |
