Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Mar 26, 2012 8:40 am after two weeks of moving in we are noticing a few things that need to be fixed... One i only noticed the other day was a gap above the toilet door... probably around 1cm from door to door frame... Is there anything out there that i can buy to reduce this gap? Re: gap above door? 2Mar 26, 2012 10:26 am Hi Newlyweds, Is the toilet enclosed in it's own room with no window? If it is, have a look at the hinges on the door. They may differ from your other internal door hinges. If they do, the gap at the top of the door is so the whole door can be lifted up off it's special hinges to remove it in the event of an emergency. We have 3 toilets enclosed in their own room without any window, and all of them have these hinges to enable the door to be lifted off. I believe it is Australian standard...but someone else might be able to explain it a little better. I don't think I have any photos, either. There are a few other threads floating around on the subject. If you close the gap, it will hinder any removal of the door from the outside. Hope that helps a bit! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... In this case, yes, there will be a small gap above the door so there is room to lift door up - the door may well be the same as other doors in your house - it is not the door that is different but the hinges attaching it to the door frame.
