Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Feb 14, 2012 9:30 pm Looking at their web site, they seem to be still using metal shutters. FWIW, apparently Trend no longer sells the BAL-FZ windows and doors, just as we started building having specified their products to comply. An alternative is to use normal door and windows, and use Smoke Contol's fire curtains, as long as the opening is no wider than 30m by 30m (from memory). Re: 'Flame Zone' bushfire attack level (BAL) approved window 2Sep 21, 2012 10:16 am These are approved and don't need shutter, however they are so expensive! double your build cost if you get these. Re: 'Flame Zone' bushfire attack level (BAL) approved window 3Sep 25, 2012 2:13 pm Tony's windows are superb (perhaps the best timber-framed windows in the business) -- but you do pay for them. On my current build I was quoted over $70,000 for BAL40 rated windows -- whereas the Stegbar equivalent came to just under $30,000. Mind you, the Stegbar product is framed with western red cedar, whereas the Paarhammer windows are all ironbark. I was stumped how western red cedar could pass an ISO test to BAL40... turns out the double glazed panels sit inside metal channels that sit proud of the timber frames. Not the most attractive solution, but apparently it passed the CSIRO tests. Go figure... Re: 'Flame Zone' bushfire attack level (BAL) approved window 5Aug 02, 2013 2:25 pm I believe Nilfire Australia offers both BAL FZ Windows and Doors without the need for fire shutters.
